Wallet Types

This article covers the two types of Wallets on the Calaxy platform.

Introduction

Calaxy supports two types of wallets: "Easy wallets" and "Advanced wallets". Every Calaxy account comes with an Easy wallet out-of-the-box. Easy wallets are hosted by our partner Magic Link. Advanced wallets are hosted inside your phone, and come with a little added responsibility. We'll explore types both below.

You can have up to 3 wallets in your Calaxy account. Learn more about managing Multiple Wallets.

🪄 Easy Wallets (Default)

"Easy wallets" are the default type of wallet that comes out-of-the-box with your Calaxy account. They are powered by our partner, Magic Link and are tied to your phone number or email address. When you first sign up for Calaxy, an Easy wallet is created and comes pre-packaged with your account.

🤓 Advanced Wallets

"Advanced wallets" are full self-custody wallets secured with a private key and 12-word alphanumeric keyphrase that you will need to store in a safe place. Advanced wallets are only recoverable with the keyphrase, not phone number or email. Advanced wallets are "advanced" because the recoverability of the wallet is entirely your responsibility. There is no "reset password" equivalent for advanced wallets. If you lose the keyphrase for this wallet, you lose access to the wallet and its contents, forever (or until you find the keyphrase). But if you care about the merits of true self-custody, advanced wallets are for you.
